Learning Centre

MIFACT now has an e-learning program that will enable the trainees to undertake selected components of the VET Certificate II in Hospitality by computer access. The clear advantages of this form of learning for people with a mental illness are that (i) that will be able to undertake the course entirely at their own pace; (ii) they will not have to attend formal lectures, which can be intimidating; (iii) they will be able to mentor each other and therefore provide encouragement to complete the course. This is the first time in Australia that this method of accessing VET education by people with a mental illness has been undertaken.

In order to facilitate our trainees’ access to the learning program, MIFACT has established a ‘Learning Centre’ in its O’Connor offices, which will provide access for the trainees to embark on the program if they do not have other computer access. It is also intended that other MIFACT members and carers will have the opportunity to use the ‘Learning Centre’ and also provide support to the trainees endeavouring to complete the program. If the trainee has other access to a computer, a CD of the program will be available for the trainees to take away and utilise in their own time.
