MIFACT Public Meeting

Schizophrenia Awareness Week

Date : Monday 21 May 2007

Time : 5.30pm

Where : ACT Health Building

5th Floor Theatrette

corner Moore and Alinga Streets, Canberra City

Speaker : Dr David Castle

Topic : The work of the Australian Psychosis Research Network

As part of a nation-wide tour during Schizophrenia Awareness Week, we will hear about the work of the Australian Psychosis Research Network (APRN) from one of its senior researchers, Dr David Castle. The launch of APRN last November was hosted by the Parliamentary Friends of Schizophrenia. Rob Knowles, chairman of the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia (MIFA), and Professor Stanley Catts will co-chair its steering committee in its mission to integrate Australia’s separate fields of research to find a cure for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The urgency of finding new treatments is demonstrated by the fact that current treatments avert less than a quarter of the disability caused by schizophrenia.
