MIFACT Public Meeting Schizophrenia Awareness Week Date : Monday 21 May 2007 Time : 5.30pm Where : ACT Health Building 5th Floor Theatrette corner Moore and Alinga Streets, Canberra City Speaker : Dr David Castle Topic : The work of the Australian Psychosis Research Network As part of a nation-wide tour during Schizophrenia Awareness Week, we will hear about the work of the Australian Psychosis Research Network (APRN) from one of its senior researchers, Dr David Castle. The launch of APRN last November was hosted by the Parliamentary Friends of Schizophrenia. Rob Knowles, chairman of the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia (MIFA), and Professor Stanley Catts will co-chair its steering committee in its mission to integrate Australia’s separate fields of research to find a cure for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The urgency of finding new treatments is demonstrated by the fact that current treatments avert less than a quarter of the disability caused by schizophrenia.
